Is play therapy suitable for your children?

Targets and the effectiveness of play therapy

Play Therapy is suitable for children aged 3 to 12 (for children under 3 may consider Filial Therapy or Theraplay). Both typically developing children and children with special needs can benefit from play therapy. Vast number of research studies has indicated that play therapy is effective for children experiencing a wide range of emotional, behavioral, social and learning problems, including:

  1. Typically developing children with emotional, behavioral, social or learning problems.
  2. Behavioral and developmental disorders, e.g. attention deficit hyperactivity (ADHD), developmentally delay, academic and social developmental, physical and learning disabilities, autism or pervasive developmental disorder, and conduct disorders.
  3. Problems related to life stressors, e.g. parental separation and divorce, death, relocation, hospitalization, chronic illness, neglect, physical and sexual abuse, domestic violence, and natural disasters.
